Up to this point (I know it’s only been one week) I have driven 100% of the content that has gone into re:THINK. Now that you know my style and have heard the desires of this new forum, I want to open the door. Knowing what it is we are rethinking, what do you want to talk about as it relates to this topic? You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to be a Christian. What topics and issues would it be helpful to discuss in order to better understand what it means to be Christian? Maybe it’s an area about which the church has been historically silent or something you’ve observed Christians not handling particularly well. For now, at least until I can gauge interest, simply comment right here on this post. Let’s talk!

I’m not sure if this topic qualifies, but…
Someone said something to me recently that starting me thinking about “worthwhile” endeavors or pursuits. From a Christian perspective, I often hear people talking about this bible study or that bible study or an event at church or a movie with a Christian theme, etc.
There seems to be the belief among many Christians that anything that is not written, filmed, or designed with an outright Christian purpose (except sports) is really a waste of time and should probably be avoided. I try not to whisper and look over my shoulder when I admit to liking Harry Potter books and movies, but I’m tempted.
But aside from that, there is the pressure to force Christianity even into things that were not designed that way (my opinion, of course). For example, there is an organization that conducts “government camps” for children whose focus is to teach children from a biblical perspective about state government. The camp is held at the Capitol. They write legislation (this makes me hyperventilate) and hold mock sessions of the House and Senate, etc.
I’m just not interested in that. I don’t want my daughter learning about government through that prism. I want her to learn about government, raw and unfiltered (within reason, of course), and for her to take that information and then filter it through everything else she’s learned, including the Word of God. Would this be a topic worthy of further discussion?

On thing that I would love to hear some input on is the choices we as Christians have to make between right and wrong. The definitions are constantly being revised by society and even by the church. But here is the question: many times Christians must choose between the lesser of two evils. We are often faced with options that are not fully good in any respect. When are we called to respond more on the area of understanding or more with conviction? Or both? We often must sacrifice something no matter what we choose. As a young person still shaping many approaches and convictions, this would be awesome to read about.
